JOURNEY BY TRAIN
Life
is studded with many beautiful experiences and journey by train is one of them.
On the 5th of the last month, I went to Kalyan by the Bombay Mail
with my parents to attend a marriage ceremony of a close relative. The train
steamed out of Howrah Station on time at 8:00 p.m. As it sped past stations I
looked out of the window and began to enjoy the rural areas. Heavily loaded
bullock carts were moving along the uneven village roads. Cattles were
returning home having a trail of dust behind. At night, I looked at the sky and
saw stars twinkling beside the full moon. After we had left Nagpur in the next
morning, I saw green mountains extended over miles. Here and there were seen
temples on the hills. The train dashed on past mountains and plains and reached
Kalyan at 1:00 p.m. I got down and went out of the station with a mind brimming
over with joy.

JOURNEY BY BOAT
Life
is studded with many beautiful experiences and journey by boat is one of them. On
the 5th of the last month, I went to Nabadweep by boat from
Krishnanagar with my parents. We started our journey early in the morning. The
whole nature seemed to be bathed in the mellow light of the rising sun. A
gentle breeze was blowing and there were ripples on the river. Our boat was slightly
swaying and we had a pleasurable situation. Both the banks of the river looked
very beautiful. Children were playing on the banks while village women were
bathing in the river. We reached Nabadweep and went to a nearby garden and enjoyed
a picnic there. In the evening, we also visited the famous Mayapurdham and
witnessed the glorious ‘Sandhyarati’ there. Then we returned home by bus. The
pleasant boat trip had a soothing effect on me.
C. My
visit to a Book Fair
Books
are the best friends of life. Book fairs give an opportunity to meet those
friends each year. On January last, a book fair was held in the extensive Milan
Sangha Maidan of our town. I lasted for five days from 2nd January
to 6th January. I visited the fair on the third day with my father.
Many book sellers and publishers from all over West Bengal joined this fair. At
least thiry five book stalls were set up on each of the four sides of the
ground and there where open spaces in front of them. They were housed in
temporary sheds. They offered discount to all kind of books. They were all
crowded. The most crowded, however, were the stalls which were stocked with
children’s books. Cultural functions were held every day, which added to the
attraction of the fair. I spent a beautiful evening there. On the whole, the
fair was a profitable one for all. To meet my friends, to smell the books and
suck the essence of a fair, I want to visit it again next year.
