A Holiday Excursion
During the Christmas holidays last
year, I had an excursion to Kolkata. I was accompanied by my parents and
sister. We first visited the Alipore Zoo. We walked around the Zoological
Garden and saw many birds and animals. We went near a pond and saw the migratory
birds in hundreds. From the Zoo, we went to the National Museum. Here we saw
the headless statue of Kaniska, the statutes of Buddha in various postures and
many other relics of the past. We also visited the oval shaped Birla
Planetarium and saw the cable – stayed Vidyasagar Setu, a wonder of all
wonders. After three days we returned home with mind filled with joy.
A Visit to a Museum
Last Sunday, I visited the Indian Museum at
Chowranghee Road , Kolkata. I was accompanied by my parents and sister. The
museum has several galleries. In each curios are preserved. We visited almost
all the galleries. At first we visited the Archaeological galleries. We saw the
stone image of different Gods and Goddesses and the gold and silver coins of
ancient rulers. But what impressed us most was the headless statue of Kaniska.
In the Zoological galleries we saw the skeletons of animals of pre – historic
period. In the Zoological galleries we saw an Egyptian mummy in a glass box.
When I learnt that it was three thousand years old, I was stuck with awe and
wonder. My visit to the Museum was both a joy and an education to me.
A Sad Day in your Life
Human life is a blend of joys and sorrows, smiles
and tears. There is no man whose life is a continuous round of pleasures of
sorrows. My life is no exception to this universal rule. Of the sad days one
will ever live in my memory. This sad day is the day when my grandfather left
us. My grandfather was septuagenarian. He had been suffering from bronchial
pneumonia. His illness took a serious turn in a day in August last year. No
sooner had he taken his morning tea than he gasped for breath. The doctor was
sent for. He had nothing to do. My grandfather died soon. My mother and aunts
wept piteously. I also wept. The memory of this sad day still moves me.
